My official date for UPT is 30 May 2009 at Whiting Field.  Nothing on my orders states anything about IFS, so I am confused as to this.  I was under the impression that everyone had to go to IFS regardless of civilian ratings?  Also,  I just love how they set my date at 5 months out, instead of 6 so that I cant qualify for an AD LT at my detachment.  Well....going to do like the rest and bag groceries for 5 more months.   Any info on the above IFS issue would be greatly appreciated!

Hey buddy,

The orders that your det gave you should just be EAD orders (starting casual status at your UPT base). You will have to go to IFS (and ASBC), and you should receive your orders to go TDY to Pueblo and Maxwell respectively while you're on casual status. Go to the Doss Aviation website to download all the info about IFS. Also... I'm 99% sure that the AF doesn't do the ADD LT gig anymore... so no hard feelings there. If it makes you feel better, I commissioned in May this year.... and I don't EAD until Nov... and I don't even start ENJJPT till June 09... That's 6 months of sacking groceries as a "civilian", followed by 7 more of sacking groceries as a casual LT.

Hope that helps.

Both of you guys should apply for gouge access on here. There is a ton of good stuff on the DA-20 to go along with what you can find on the Doss website...

I am the same class.  I have been wondering what goes on there with respect to training, if it is anything like the other training bases.  I have IFS 26 Jan 09, maybe for you also.

update...just already have gouge access.  EAD 30 March 2009 at whiting.  IFS start date is 26 July 2009 with a IST start date of 19 Sept 2009.  Anybody else in this class hit me up.  Still not sure what happens during the down time between class end and class start dates.  Not alot of information is given out to us.  One day at a time!  NO ASBC

ROTC or AD? I found out I'm heading to Vance but my det didn't tell me an EAD date.

ROTC.  Det got an email said Report to Whitng.  Then found out that was just EAD date.  Well it changed....AGAIN.  Report to ASBC 25 march and then Whiting on 9 May.  Then leave for IFS.  Just keeps changing.  Either way I EAD 5 days earlier now.  DO WE GET ANY INSURANCE BEFORE EAD??

Yea I haven't heard shit about when I report to vance. But March isn't too bad..... least December grads got a shorter wait then the 6 monthers from may.

To answer your question, as of now, I'm pretty sure No. My friend had to get insurance for a few months till he EAD's from May graduation. It's bullshit.

Fast #... Absolutely no insurance before EAD unless you go out and buy it for yourself. Your down time before EAD is just like being a civilian. You could look in to getting "catastrophic" insurance... the kind that only pays up if you get in a really bad accident, and then just suck it up of you catch a cold or something minor.

Funny pre-EAD story here...

A couple years back some ass-clown from my det a got a DUI right after he graduated. THEN, he called the CC of his gaining squadron to report it because he though he had to (he didn't). He is now "that guy" at his squadron and he has to give all the safety / drunk driving briefings. Moral of the story -- you don't have anything to do with the Air Force before you EAD.

ACTUALLY, you are covered by TRICARE after you commission, even before you EAD, unless you have other health insurance. It's a new thing, and if you actually get hurt and need to see a doctor, it's a pain in the ass because no one knows how to deal with you. "So wait, you're not a cadet, you've graduated and commissioned, but you're still not active duty?" Trust me, it just happened to me. But fear not, you ARE actually covered by TRICARE.

Does anyone know if they are going to update the Doss website for IFS with a new silabus after the beginning of FY09?

Are you a Dec grad FY09? I just found out my base... no idea about dates or anything yet though. I didn't think we were supposed to find out until end of Oct or Nov

Graduated in August.  Commisison 1 Oct.  Earliest FY 09 possible.  They started our paperwork before others.
