It's not just the fact that these Admirals and Generals support Obama but much moreso is the outstanding REASONS why.  Oddly enough, his middle name is never mentioned.   Kind of crazy...

I agree with them that he's the best candidate..  I don't agree with him on everything.  He's a little too liberal for me.  I don't like his stance on gun control.  But I think he has integrity, class, and intelligence and I think he'd be good for the country.

It's a shame... Elections always make me feel as though the voter is paralyzed, so few choices, always choosing while gritting your teeth. Everyone wants a smart politician, but to be a politician you have to be an idiot. I'm sure there is a catch 22 to be found in there. Why is this topic so wide.

Yeah, Obama is too liberal for me, especially on grounds of protection of human life. Don't like McCain much either though, but for different reasons... Eh... Doesn't matter anyway, I'm in Alabama, my vote goes to McCain anyway.

Damn. I'm a political science major and I hate to see people in this country that are so jaded about our political process. Granted, the electoral college voting setup doesn't exactly live up to the "one person, one vote" cliche, and I can definately understand where you're coming from.

As far as choosing a president goes though, you're never going to have a candidate that matches up with you on every issue (that is, unless YOU want to run for president). So it becomes extremely important to identify the BIG issue. In the case of this presidential race, NO ONE is going to be able to get ANYTHING accomplished until our country gets out of this left vs. right deadlock we're in right now. No progress can be made while congress and the citizens of this country scream across the aisle at one another. Therefore, the best thing we can hope for in a president right now is an innate ability to bring people together. Obama is undoubtedly the only one of the three left that has the ability to bring this country back together so we can move forward again.

Also, Obama represents a new generation of politicians that we've yet to see in the white house. McCain, Clinton, and Bush all come from the same baby-boomer generation of thinking. More so now than ever before, our country needs a unifier that can bring a new way of thinking about old problems. Despite his inevitable imperfections, Obama is that man. Sorry to get all political preachy on here... it's just something I'm pretty passionate about. Eh, Ryno... I hope I'm not breaking any rules by talking about this stuff?

Not that a have a vote anyway--Sorry to sound jaded Shep--but I'm really not sure. Obama is too pro choice for me personally. When you're not pro-life, it's easy for a pro-choicer to say, "What's the big deal, abortion isn't murder, etc." which from their point of view, I guess it isn't that big of deal. From a pro-life point of view however, one that I stand behind, I believe that abortion is murder and therefore to me it's a huge issue in any election. I do realize however, that even if McCain or (Insert conservative here) was the most pro-life anti-abortion candidate on the face of the Earth, chances of having Roe v. Wade overturned in the Supreme Court remain next to nil... Doesn't matter who is in office, won't happen.

I agree we should not have gone to Iraq, I felt like one of the few people who cared that that was a foolish decision after 9/11... No one seemed to focus on the gravity of war at all. I guess everyone was pretty shaken up. Only two people in congress didn't vote for the war. I really dislike when I hear people say, 'Bush's War', etc. I'm not a big Bush fan or anything, but I have to say... I don't care if Al Gore or John Kerry would have won, they could not have done much better. Talk about getting dealt some shitty cards on your term in the President's seat. That's a lot of stuff on anyone's plate...

We all made the mistake of going to war in Iraq,... This isn't Vietnam however, and I don't believe just dropping everything a pulling out is the right thing to do... Not that I know the right thing...

I'm anti-abortion and yet I support Obama head and shoulders over McCain.

You're not breaking any rules.  This is the democratic process.  As long as you don't say "I [position in military] support X over Y" then you're covered.  Too many people think they are toy soldiers that have to "shut up and color" and these are just self imposed bullshit restrictions.  You have every right to speak your mind when you're not representing the military.

Yea, here's where we see the democratic process at work.  People don't always know "what's best for the country," so they vote for the person that best represents their OWN interests.  Unfortunately, this has turned into powerful Interest GROUPS and big business controlling our political processes more so than the politicians themselves.  Another awesome thing about Obama is that every penny of money he's raised has been grassroots -- no lobbyists, no big business -- therefore no misguided loyalties if he's elected to office.

No matter who wins, the next president has a LOT of f***in' work to do.

Damn straight. It may be for the best though. You can't fix what isn't (well, visibly, at least) broken. With everyone agreeing that something's gotta give, maybe we can make some really positive changes this time around.

Good point SB. All the time I hear from military people "I'm voting for X because they want to give the military a pay raise" and I think about Tammany Hall and voters being paid off with food and other bribes. The difference being nobody in the military is starving. They may not all be rich but they're not starving. And yet a simple little pay raise is enough for their vote.

"I'm going to destroy the country, make the world hate us and make us all less safe BUT I'm gonna give you a few extra dollars every month." Pay raises, tax "refunds,"...how easily the electorate cedes all responsibility for our government. Almost as easy as Congress did when we went into Iraq.

We better do better this time around after the past 8 years. But I hear all the same bullshit thrown about during this campagin by good updstanding "moral" people and I'm reminded how so many of us are unfortunately still racist, bigotted, supersticious and cowardly and the great many of us that allowed the past 8 years to happen are still voting. We're in a sad state.

America needs to shed the arrorant pride, stop crucifying the patriots that righteously rebuke her, and get back on the straight and narrow. We've lost our way and Fox news is not going to help us find it.

Unfortunately my esteem for Obama has dropped significantly since he welched on his public financing pledge. His integrity took a major hit there in my book. I'll still vote for him over McCain but now I find myself in the boat of others that are not particularly excited about either candidate. It's still a step up from other elections since I don't hate either McCain or Obama. Oh well.

While Obama continues to piss me off due to him acting like a typical politician and his integrity no longer being above approach as a result...and despite the fact that I highly respect the pre-W McCain....I am horrified that McCain would pick such an absolutely horrible VP.  Wow!!!!  At least many of the Republicans are now voicing their opposition to her and one of her long time supporters is now asking her to drop herself from the ticket because she's clearly going to cost McCain the election.  No doubt about it.

Anybody that can watch this interview of Sarah Palin with Katie Couric all the way through....and still vote for McCain.....has learned absolutely NOTHING from the last 8 years and should be barred from voting because they are absolutely moronic (and probably still think Obama is a Muslim).

Sarah Palin is absolutely fucking inexcusably stupid, must be kept as far away from the White House and government as possible, and emboldens our enemies when she opens her filthy sewer.  You can see the whole interview here

In this SNL skit they actually make Palin look smarter in the first half of the interview.  The second half, however, is a spot on impression.  http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/couric-palin-open/704042/

After getting several hundred "Obama is a muslim" emails and hearing otherwise intelligent educated peers hint the same and after having heard some rants about how his "questionable" religious upbringing would be a real problem if he were elected etc etc etc....I find myself watching this video and I agree with those people that a person's religious beliefs are important as I think about who I will vote for.  Maybe they're right....maybe somebody could have some wacked out beliefs that would cause them to do some wacky shit if elected.  A lot of people have seen video of Obama's old black pastor ranting and raving before Obama disowned him.  Here are two videos of a black pastor that are also very telling.

Funny how Palin/McCain claim Obama is shady because of his connection to Bill Ayers because they served in the same community circles in Chicago.

Even more "funny" that while they whip up the crowds their retard audiences they have people yelling "terrorist" and "kill him" about Obama and McCain does nothing about it.  Wow.  Oh how far the "Republicans" have fallen...  I don't like either party and both candidates have flaws but the Republican party has been empowered by the most the disgusting, evil, ignorant, embarassingly un-American segment of our population.

And now McCain aids are calling Palin a "whackjob"....

What were they thinking when they put that moron on the ticket?

According to this story:

In the past week, aides to the Arizona senator have briefed reporters anonymously against Mrs Palin, describing the Alaska Governor as a “diva”. Yesterday a far harsher pejorative emerged: one called her a “whack job”, a term usually reserved for people who are dangerously unbalanced.

What a joke McCain/Palin are....

And here is McCain talking about how he's disappointed that Powell endorsed Obama but having a tough time remembering the five secretaries of state that have endorsed him...  The man makes Reagan look like he was 12 when he took the White House.

A buddy pointed this out to me yesterday.  Apparently Obama isn't without speech vulnerabilities himself when the teleprompter goes out.
