Hey all, I'm creating a Laughlin AFB resource page for this site, and a sub-section of it is going to be a list or something with insider tips. These tips are just little bits of info that one would not find in any published source, and can be serious or humorous. Just as long as it's useful (KEYWORD) to someone who would be reading the page. Keep in mind that someone reading the page will be EADing or PCSing to the base, and more than likely will be involved with the SUPT program. It could be anything from good housing, hole-in-the-wall bars, things NOT to do, etc.
Any help from current/former members of the base, send me a PM, call me on my cell, or just pull me aside if you see me doing what I do. I'd appreciate it if you could get them into me NLT 25 Jan, although if you think of any afterwards, get it to me anyways.
Thanks guys! |

Go to housing FIRST THING when you're inprocessing and see if you can get into Pinnacle housing if you want to move on base. Bring it back at the O Club every Friday night. Eat and drink lots of beer at TB's. Learn to dance in circles for Club Arriba. Check for wedding ring / kids when talking to local girls. Learn Spanish. |

Boats are good. We haven't done it yet (water's too cold right now), but we definitely plan on doing some partying / fishing / skiing out there once it warms up. |

On a side note for boats, in order to rent boats from Outdoor Rec, you will need to drive to the other end of town to the Laughlin AFB Annex and take the boating exam. You have to do this at every base.
There is a written test and a boating check ride. The written one is easy. If you can't pass that sucker, then you shouldn't be flying. Simple. The checkride is going out and knowing how to drive a boat. Gotta learn to use reverse as brakes, since you can't really stop on a dime in the water. |

I think flying uavs would be easier than driving a boat...maybe on par with the remote controlled boats you can drive at amusement parks...so you can still fail your boating test and fly for the AF fizzy....don't stress yourself out now.

Boats. Got it. What else? Stanfizzle, anything you would've liked to have known about the dorms before you got down here? |

It would have been nice to see a picture of the dorms. Also the description matched the contents of the NEW dorm building, not the OLD buildings. Apparently, in the new buildings, there is more space and you get a recliner. Essentially, the dorms are a studio apartment with a full kitchen, minus the dishwasher. I would recommend pinnacle housing. It is best to get as much research as possible. Learn as much as you can about the UOQs, duplexes, and pinnacle housing. If you can get off base in a nice apartment, go for it.
If you want a nice apartment, the Stonegate complex is probably the best way to go. A lot of Laughlin personnel live there. It is in a good neighborhood and the complex seems pretty new.

Deffinately get to housing the first day. Try to get a duplex, or on base housing, even if you have no furniture. You are going to get paid pretty well, and you will be able to afford a bed. Not having room to do what you want sucks big time, and it is nice to have people over and have a nice place to hang out. Look in the on base newspaper and around the Ops building in the bathrooms for classified adds for furniture. People are moving all the time, and are willing to sell stuff they don't need for pretty cheap. I got a matching couch and loveseat which look brand new for less than half a furniture store wanted for a comparible model. Learn how to cook, and save money. Eating out on base every day will kill your money supply. Buy your food, and cook it yourself. Save some money. |

Ladies night is not on Wednesday at Club Arrrrrrriba anymore. It is, in fact, Thursday. Wear that cowboy hat, snap on that belt buckle, grow your mustachio, and circle dance into the pants of some seniorita. Dirty Girls For Life (DG4L). |

More like "right hand is descending into pants." Believe you me, your hand is much more likely to NOT give you an STD and DEFINTIELY NOT likely to give you a tiny bastard version of yourself. You gotta watch those DelRitas. They're in for the kill. |

Check out ReformDelRio.Com for some good peeps that are trying to work together against those that exist merely to suck the blood and money from military families. If you want in to the member forum where the real discussion happens you'll want to register with your military email address or know somebody. |
