All right then guys, its that time of the year again, time for those of us that hate our acquisition desk jobs to try and get rated! I started a thread like this one last year when i made my first run at an active duty slot. Has anyone talked to AFPC to find out how many slots for AD there are this year? Oh well, I just wanted to say lets start talking about this year and see how it looks. Cheers!

Looks like there are about 50 slots this year according to Mr. Peterson. Last year about 250 people applied. So there's about a 1 in 5 chance this year so far.

Maybe i was a little premature with launching this tread. According to my countdown timer i launched this morning there are still 112 days or 2693 hours till the board meets. Although i guess its never to early to start the discussion.

Good morning all!

Just another boring day here in Comm...but I have 42 more days till I start UPT! Anyways, I went this road last year and was lucky enough to be one of the 49 they selected out of the 250 applicants. so I just want to throw my hat back in the ring and offer up any advice I can give. so PM me or email me with any questions and I'll be more than happy to answer them. and for all you AF type peoples, I'm in the global. (Sherman Benjamin D 2dLt). Later!

For you guys that have already made it...what was your PCSM, AFOQT scores, PPL status, etc.

my AFOQT was pilot 98, nav 96, academic 98, verbal 99, quantitative 91

PCSM: 91

I have just about 30 hours flying and will have my PPL by the end of october.

I also have 2 strong letters of recommendation from commanders. Not sure where I'm going to be ranked in the Wing standings though (I've heard that plays a big factor.)

Anyhow, let me know how my scores compare to those of you that have already made it.

Thanks!

Matt

As I just posted on base ops:

"The message was finally sent out at my base today.

I have a good pile of successful 215s that I don't mind sharing...PM me with your email address and I'll send them to you.

My .02: Your stratification (ranking) is most important to the board -- not many will tell you that, but I'm convinced that it is true. Remember there is always the AF PC answer and the real answer.

Obviously, performance at your base (doing well in your job, base involvement, kissing ass, etc), OPRs, test scores, PPL (GET YOUR PPL IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT), and scores factor into that ranking. I've seen 3-4 boards since I've been on AD and every single time the #1 guy at my base was selected regardless of his scores (a few times he was the only one like last year's board).

Obviously, if you are #1/1 then they probably delve into your records a little more...just wanted to make a point that stratification is F**king huge on any kind of AD board, be it UPT, FSB, or promotion boards. Of course, have all your "boxes checked" and always do your best regardless.

Lastly, although I never got picked up for Active Duty, I just got my long awaited slot for a guard unit (which I think is a better deal anyway). Don't put your eggs in one basket...exhaust all options if this is a real dream for you.

Good luck to all of you and I hope to see you in UPT in FY07!"

BTW, I also came out of weenie acquisitions!

My AFOQT was Pilot 96, Nav 97, academic apt 97, Verbal 90, Quantitative 96

I had 110 Flight hours (PPL, Inst Ground)

My PCSM was 96

And I was #1 of 2 from my base. I agree that commander strat is mondo importante! as with anything in the AF stratification is paramount. Take a look at the AD page on this site, you'll find my 215. don't pay so much attention to the content of the bullets, but pay more attention as to how they are worded, what they are geared towards, and the format and style. Remember you get one piece of paper to tell the board who you are and why you'll be a good pilot. Rock on!

Hey Frenzy didn't you take the new AFOQT? I took the old one my freshman year of college and i have a 70 pilot and a 70 nav but i have over 200 hours so my pcsm is 93 right now. I have to take the new TBAS test that replaced the BAT this year. I'm trying to figure out if i have time to take the AFOQT before the package deadline. Oh well, if anyone has any tips on taking the AFOQT then please let me know.

Cheers!

What is up friend of Lt JBabb? yeah, I took the new format. you have time...trust me you have time...

Study your ass off and take the AFOQT again. remember tho, since there are fewer sections the math sections are weighted even more. so pound away at the math. Your PCSM is nice, but imagine how much nicer it would be if you pilot were to jump into the 90's...my PCSM was an 86 when I graduated ROTC, and that was with a 60 pilot on the AFOQT and 110 hrs. when I got my 96, my PCSM jumped to 96. that's a 10 point bump. couldn't hurt! Hasta.

It only took me like 2 weeks after I took the test to get the scores back. I just checked the site every day and then boom it was there.

Thanks guys, I've been working on the 215 since March and using numerous other successful ones for guidance. I hope I make it, I feel pretty good about everything so far. Is this anyones second shot at the board?

Hey Mattphp1 Yeah this is my second shot. I'm feeling pretty good so far...I will feel better once I have taken the AFOQT again. I'm not that worried thought, I just turned 23 and have many more years to apply (although, sooner is always better!). There are a couple flyers and retired flyers in my office who are all really good at "word smithing" who are helping me with my 215. You sound like you have a good shot. Those AFOQT scores are sh@* hot. What does your PCSM go up to once you break the 40 hour mark?

Hey Frenzy, you took the new AFOQT, what study guide did you use? I guess you found it to be very helpful. I need to get my hands on it as soon as possible. Thanks.

Yeah, I'm 24 so I also have a few more years to give this a shot, however I've only been in for a year and a couple months, so this is my first run at it. No worries about that new AFOQT though, I took it in April and studied for about a month ahead of time (I used the ARCO books you can get from Mil Clothing, both the Officer Candidate and Military Flying), and I thought it was a ton easier than the first go round with it. When I break 40 hrs my PCSM will only go up to 92. I took the TBAS and my score went from a 94 to a 91. Have you done that yet? It's quite a bit more involved than the BAT, but still managable. Let us know how the TBAS and AFOQT go.

Also, where do you work at Wright-Patt, I have a couple friends up there in AFRL.
