Are other units getting tagged with these "great deals" to the desert?  My unit (559th T-6 PIT) has had 2 come down this week alone and one just left last week.  They are flying jobs teaching the Iraqi Air Force in the C-172 and Caravan.

My impression has been those jobs are mostly going to PIT dudes like yourself

There are a few being handed out to fighter pilots, but Ryno is right. ACC is attempting to keep as many fighter pilots in their own cockpits as possible. I hear a lot of talk about pilot shortages in the fighter community. I don't like to say it, but one unit getting that many people heading out to those jobs smacks of a leader volunteering his force for it.

I did a little more research into it and it boils down to Overseas return dates and short tours. Most of the dudes here are "older", and if they don't have a short tour...well, it's their turn. The year groups they are selecting is '88-92 commissionees...it would make sense because those are the guys getting tagged. If they happened to be at one of the UPT bases they would still get tagged, but most of the older more experienced guys come here all in one place. Btw...the squadron leadership does not benefit from getting one of his dudes a 365 assignment, don't confuse that with an AEF rotation...comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges. AEF = What have you done for me lately 365 = Overseas return date. We have successfully reclaimed most of the 365's that have come down due to manning. I have a class of 15 Upgrade Instructors with only 2 IP's assigned to me/my flight....I guess we will do what we can.
