I want to get an idea of how long things take (training date wise) for people who get hired from a guard/reserve unit. I understand that there are many factors invovled (waivers, holidays, guard bureau workload, etc...) could everyone post how long it took to get dates and what dates they got at what time? This could give new hires a rough estimate of what kind of time frame they're looking at for their training.
Here's my info:
Hire date: June 2009 (for fiscal year 2011)
Package submitted to guard bureau: October 2009
Brooks dates received: 16 December 2009
MFS at Brooks: 5 Jan 2010
As of now I still haven't received any dates for AMS, IFS or UPT
It's weird because I know some people are getting their dates for Brooks, AMS, IFS and UPT all in one shot and some people aren't. |

I was selected in late June 2009 for a 2010 UPT slot at my Unit. I was told that once my package was submitted by my Unit to State HQ, that they had 30 days to do what they had to do and then forward it on down to DC, where the NGB had 30 days to do what THEY had to do, to then send me back approved to my Unit. At that time my unit could request school dates. Being that my package didn’t get completely sent to State HQ until the beginning of September, I didn't expect to hear anything until mid November about being approved, and then REALLY didn't foresee dates prior to October 2010 due to AMS only doing 3 classes for FY10. So in November, when I got not only my approval letter but dates too, everyone involved were surprised. My training POC actually had my school dates before the POC in MPF in charge of commissioning had my approval letter! Kind of goes to show you never know how its going to fall. I was fully prepared to wait an entire year to get started... |

I believe you should shoot to be under 214 as this will mean no further BS, although you will probably be counseled on being so close to the edge. However, you MAY be waiverable as long as you are under 240 if your body composition works out (i.e. BMI and Body Fat Percentage). Don't qoute me, but I believe thats how it works. Id just shoot to be under 214. |

Thanks for the info. How long does the FC1/MFS medical take? How long does the
ECG take? Also, this is just for info to pass on but can you take the AFOQT a
third time? Is it easier to get a waiver for this in the guard? Also, do they
take into consideration the aircraft you will be flying (c-21/c-27) and ease
back on the weight standards? Obviously not by a lot but a few lbs. I am 223
and I guess I need to be 214 in 20 days before brooks, this will not be easy.
thanks

For any past AMS candidates. Couple of questions. Do you recommend taking a personal laptop? I heard some take a printer. Also, can we bring shower gel instead of a bar of soap? Better to fly or drive to AMS? |
