Hello, I have been selected as an alternate with the VTANG (where I am currently a crew chief) and I have been reading up on UPT as much as I possibly can but I am curious about the ENJJPT route. I was wondering if I need to mention anything to the members of the pilot select board about my interest in ENJJPT or should I not bother since I have been selected as an alternate?
Thanks,
Nic |

If you become the primary candidate there will be a bunch of paperwork. I don't remember which form but on one them there is a box you can check signifying you would prefer ENJJPT if the
Guard Bereau and AFPC decide they want to send you there and can make it work. I checked that box and am at EN now.

If you are all ready hired by a fighter ANG unit, why would it matter if you went to ENJJPT or SUPT? It makes absolutely no difference. |

That's what I was wondeirng about, sorry, I was a little vague though. I didn't know if it would matter if I went to ENJJPT or not since I was already with the unit. So how exactly does it work for me as far as a track selection when I am at UPT? Would I still need to do well enought to get the opportunity to select the fighter track or am I automatically placed there since I will be with a fighter base?
Thanks |

Guard guys aren't part of the track select process. Their slots in the Phase III track exist outside the normal track select numbers.
If you are an ANG guy with a fighter unit, you will train in the T-38 track unless you have significant problems in T-6s. If that's the case, and it has nothing to do with track select, then your unit will be determining if they want you to proceed with the T-38 track, or if they try and find you a new home in a heavy unit.
There's no 'risk' involved track select day -- and hence there is no benefit to going to Sheppard versus any of the other UPT bases. |

Thanks for all of your help Hacker! I greatly appreciate it! Now as far as UPT bases go, I am assuming that I don't get any preference as to where I get placed. It does not matter to me where I do end up going becuase I will be getting the same training anyhow, but is there a spot on the paperwork involved that asks for a preference or are you placed where ever there is room for you?
Thanks,
Nic |

You should be able to list your base preferences. There are some good threads on baseops.net and airforceots.com about the pros/cons of the SUPT bases. |

Come on out to ENID Oklahoma, where the wind goes sweeping down the plain! Or so I’m told. One thing I’d like to add to this discussion also is that being us Guard guys know when this is all over, we are coming back to our home units to fly our own planes, I would think it kind of takes a little bit of stress off during UPT since we don't NEED to compete (unless you have a competitive streak like myself) for our track. Don’t get me wrong, I plan on doing everything in my power to do as well as possible at UPT, but I was thinking about that last week and this post fits in. |

Isn't ENJJPT a lot more difficult? |

No.
It is a slightly different syllabus, with slightly more flight hours and less simulators. There are slight differences to what exercises are done during the formation phase in T-38s. The Course Training Standards (the standard by which student performance is graded) is the same as SUPT. |

Do they still fly the T-37 Tweet at Sheppard or are they all T-6 II Texan now? |
