Okay here is my question. So I decided to put in a package for a ANG SUPT position. Before I applied I spoke to the unit to inform them that I will be deployed during the time the interviews will be taking place. Now, I recieved a email stating that due to me being unable to attend the interview, that I my package has been disqualified. Now does it seem fair that I volunteered for this deployment, and now I feel like I am being punished for doing somthing good for my country? Anyways, just seeing if anybody has been in a similar situation, and how did you go about handling it? Thanks.

Are they saying that you're 'disqualified' permanently, or that they're just not going to consider you on this particular board?

These units have to send trainees to UPT on a timeline, so it's possible that they will simply need to all ready have an answer (e.g. made their selection) before you would potentially be able to interview post-deployment.

As an aside, I'd be careful about having the attitude that you are 'being punished' for making a decision like that. If you have that kind of view of how things happen in the military, I think you'll find yourself having a real complex about how/why decisions regarding your future are made.

They said there not considering me for the particular board because I am unable to make the interview on the set dates. Before I decided to submit a package I called to verify that I would still be able to apply even though I would be deployed during the interview.

I guess I don't see what the big deal is -- this is one board in one ANG unit. So you missed it; there are other boards and other units (unless you are bumping up against the max age).

As someone who was playing that exact game for a long time, I can totally understand your concern/confusion. On more then one occasion I was deployed when a job closed, and while I never got a letter saying my package was "disqualified" due to the deployment, I did come back only to find that while I was promised an INTERVIEW upon my return the slot had been filled in my absence.  I am willing to bet it was, as Hacker said, the timeline to get the interviews done. Not to sound trite, but have you applied and gotten the interview in the past? You say they said you could "apply" they didn't say you'd get an interview. Maybe initially they didn't expect the turnout they got as far as packages and for that reason you got bumped out. One things for sure, do NOT give up if it's really what you want.......

Thanks for the advice, im sorry you had to experience the same thing as i did. Im sure you know how time consuming it is to put a package together and to have it denied over somthing you cant control, how fraustrating it can be. I guess its back to the drawing board...
