Fellow (student) Aviators,

We're finally on the eve of rolling out our private UPT class forums/pages (should be up by the end of the day).  The great thing about these is they will be EASY and quick.  We programmed some background architecture to make it a snap.

The page will be accessible only by the UPT student class.  The page included private full featured forums (same functionality as the forum you're using now) and Private Messaging.  The page also includes a Contacts "module" where users can put in their basic contact info for class coordination.  The private forum serves as a place for flight mates to pass gouge and info on Instructor Pilot and Check Pilot quirks and flight profiles.  So when the Check Pilot zings you with some left field EP you can pass it to your buddies and keep them from getting blindsided.  The page is completely private.

To set up a page for your flight, go to the UPT Class/SRO page.  You'll see a section that allows you to request the page.  You specify your UPT base, the class year, and the call number (ie Vance 06-10).  You then specify a PASSWORD that will be required for people to gain access to your flight page.  Click a button.  Admin will approve and set the page up (but the set up will only take a minute instead of the hour it used to take before).  You'll get an email that has the links and the password (so you can forward the email to your flight mates).  Go back to the SRO page and you'll see the class page in a dropdownlist.  Select it, enter the password, and you get instant access to your flight page.

You'll also get access to our "Air Force UPT Gouge" forum which will show up on this main messageboard.  All verified UPT studentswill  have access to this forum as a place to share gouge and UPT advice across the various UPT bases and white jet airframes.

Expect this functionality to show up on the UPT Class/SRO page by the end of today.

So it looks like I cant sign up for this until I get my UPT dates, but is there anyway that I can check out other classes forums or get some good UPT gouge elsewhere before I get there?

I'll tell you what I'm gonna do I'll make it so guys that are "in transit" can see the main UPT forum (hidden except to verified UPT students from all bases). You won't be able to see the private class forums but you'll be able to see the all-UPT-students forum. And I'll work that into the Gouge Vault so you'll be able to download/upload gouge before you get there. Let me work on this and I'll post the details when it's done.

Will it be the same if you have your class start date, but haven't started training yet??

Yeah...for guys that have pilot slots but haven't started UPT yet or don't know their class date...they'll be able to see the Gouge Vault and UPT forum (not the private class pages - those are only viewable by their flight members). If you know your base and class you can create your own UPT class page before you even get there. Use it as a place to store gouge or just meet up with other guys that you know are going to be in your class.

I'll knock this out tomorrow...

If any you guys know what base you'll be going to for UPT you can help us all out (and yourself) by creating a page about that base/town. We want to have a page dedicated to each UPT base which will give basic info about it, where you can get utilities, housing...the basics. Also, places to eat, go, etc. If anyone wants to get this started - check out the "Create A Page" under the "More" menu above. Once you get it done we'll add some high speed stuff to it including a Google map/imagery where guys can pushpin different locations that are good to check out (strips clubs, watering holes, golf courses, etc). But if you're gonna do the research on the base you might as well help everyone out. Plus you'll get paid for it if you want. Details on the "Create A Page" page.

Anyway IPs can get access to the non-private UPT forum and gouge area? I've got a ton of gouge I can contribute and it would a good resource even for instructors. Plus studs could ask questions in it and get advice from guys that have been flying the airframe for years and have some airsense. Then they could just use their private flight page for their IP bashing

T6D - I smell what you're steppin' in. I think it's a great idea.

I'd like to get some inputs from current UPT studs and "pilot selects" though. Would it be value added to have IPs on the UPT Forum? Or would it make guys more timid about posting gouge and advice and "I heard..." comments for fear some IP might make a mountain out of a molehill? The private class pages will be private and only viewable by the class studs. That's certain. Whether or not the UPT Forum should be stud only is a good question.

So... Studs & Selects, should we give IPs access?

The Gouge Vault is up and running. It's very pretty - uses some of that nice AJAX magic for any geeks out there.

FOR NOW, the only way to get access to it is to create a UPT Class Page on the Class/SRO page. Doing that verifies you're a UPT stud and automatically gives access.

If you're a SELECT and want access - PM me and I'll work it on a case by case basis for now. At least until I can get some functionality up to verify some stuff. I'll probably have something made that recognizes if a person is on a .mil computer and, if so, does some magic and gives them access. Something like that. For now, just PM me and state your case for why you should have access.

Anyone that has gouge they want thrown into the Vault (and who doesn't have access to it and so can't do it themselves) please contact us and we'll put it in there. White jet aircraft only.

I would have added USAFAStriver but he done graduated and is off blowing shit up...

New guys will need to convince me they are a Stud or Select to get access.

BTW,

This access means you now get to see the Air Force UPT Forum (it's on the board you're reading now and has been all along - you just couldn't see it). That Forum also has a section just for ENJJPT guys. You also can see the "Gouge Vault" under the "UPT Prep" menu so feel free to add gouge to it. This is all new so obviously any help getting it off to a good start will be appreciated.

This access does NOT include the private UPT Class page. You have to do that yourself on the UPT Class/SRO page.

I just put some more stuff up. Here's a question. If you click on something it shows details about it including links for "subscription" & "check out" but I can't find anything that says what those are all about. Do you have an instruction sheet up anywhere?

Instructions would be helpful wouldn't they.  I'll crank some out but for now:

• SUBSCRIBE:  You can subscribe to a particular piece of gouge (or several).  When it gets updated/revised you'll get an email letting you know it has been updated.
• CHECK OUT:  This allows any user to update/revise a gouge document.  Click check out and it'll tell you what you have to do.  It's simple though.  Download the document, revise it, and upload it again with comments explaining your revisions.  The Vault keeps serveral copies of each document so people can see how's it changed, what has changed, etc.  It's a nice feature for Gouge since it gets outdated all the time.  This allows the community to keep stuff current more easily

The Vault is actually pretty nice but it's a far cry from what I wanted to release.  It's going to be much better once I get more time to work on it.  One of the simple features I need to add is the ability for people to subscribe to a folder (ie T-6 or T-1) so they get emailed when any piece of gouge is updated or if new gouge is added.

But with you guys adding gouge I think it will prove to be serious value added before long.  Thanks for your time and effort.

I was able to check one them out and check it back in. When someone has one of them checked out, are people able to still view and download it or is that suspended until it's checked back in? Also, one of them doesn't seem to download right for some reason. I'm not sure if it's because it's 1.5 megs or what but it has a different file name than expected and doesn't show up as Word document. But once I had it on my computer I just renamed it and it worked fine but it's still annoying. The others worked fine. Maybe it's too big? I like it though. Very organized.

I will get some detailed instructions up on that page tomorrow. But guys CAN check out gouge even if it's checked out. But they CANNOT check it out themselves when it's checked out. So a person shouldn't check it out unless they're about to immediately check it back in. IE, download it. Revise it. Then do the check out/check in.

PM me the name of the gouge that's downloading funny would ya? I'm about to rack out but I'll take a look at it tomorrow.

Thanks for access. Now hopefully there'll be some documents in the fault soon so I can start crackin' :-P.

Also, I'd be happy to start a page for my class...however, I don't know our class number yet. I'm starting ENJJPT on 23 Jul 07.

It's not rush really, I guess. I have yet to find any guys on here or on base*ops with my class start date.
