Hi, I'm an AS100 cadet currently hoping to get a pilot slot when the time comes. I've done a good bit of searching but so far have not found an answer forthis question. Does the time you spend in pilot training count toward the 10 year commitment or does that start afterwards?

Also I was told (by an unreliable source) that if you contract then the time spent in ROTC counts toward your years of service and helps you retire sooner. Does anyone know if this is true?

V/R,

Silverhawk

Your ten year committment starts the day you get winged at UPT.

ROTC does not count for retirement.

I'm not sure which part of my post sounded like I did not want to join the AF, but I assure you I do.

Thank you for the information.

Some people also wonder about time in service in addition to time towards that 10 year committment. Ryno is correct with the 10 years starting after you get your wings pinned at UPT, but time in service starts halfway inbetween your date of commissioning and your enter active duty date. For those pilot candidates that have 6 month breaks inbetween commissioning and active duty, they are not getting screwed so bad, and they get half of that wait time counted as time in service.
