So here the Dow sits at 7365.67....the lowest since this thread was started. I wonder what the market will do tomorrow...

Well the 7000 Dow bottom has popped today and Warren Buffet's letter coupled with markets around the world seem to indicate the worst is not yet over. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

So what's the thread BDA? Not as bad as I had thought? Or is it still coming? Is the worst over or did our government just put a ludicrous financial band-aid on things with the worst to come?

I fear that it's still on it's way -- the media can say whatever they want, and 69% of the lemmings in the public will believe that it is true. It just seems asinine to believe that just one day "the recession's over!" when you still have 10% unemployment.

Technically, that may be true -- we may not be recessing any more -- but that doesn't mean that hard times are over by a long shot.

I agree. The market might have recovered after companies shed employees but we've still got the unemployment and that is only going to get worse. Companies are not only firing workers but they're not going to bring them back because American employees are expensive and they can instead out source and automate (before long I think you'll see robotic preparation and delivery of food at fast food joints). The haves and have nots is going to grow much wider.

The other thing is the cultural issues haven't been solved and in fact have been worsened. The lesson on Wallstreet is that cooking the books to generate a false market high is fine and rarely comes with any punishment and is covered by a government safety net. Instead of learning the lessons of the 1930s where the importance of honest dealing and reputation made a comeback I think we continue to see that immorality is not punished and is actually rewarded financially.

I agree the worst is yet to come.
