I'm currently pledging a fraternity and I am wondering what kind of experiences any frat guys have had. I really like all of the guys in the frat and everyone says joining was one of the best decisions they have ever made. Even the alumni still have ties to the fraternity.

The biggest issue is the monetary commitment. I feel like $450 a quarter is kind of a lot of money. Right now I feel like that money is going to buying friends, girls, and parties. This was what I really wanted to avoid, but hopefully it will get better. Or I'm out.

Right now I feel like my ROTC Det. is like a fraternity, but I don't have to pay to join. So I would really like to hear some imput from current frat guys and frat alums that are currently in the Air Force.

The only thing my fraternity dues bought me was a bigger headache in the morning, and a bad GPA. In my opinion, fraternities are really just about buying friends. I get the occasional hook-up every couple years or so when I go to some random place with a shirt on, but that's about it. I personally would not recommend it, unless you're into the heavy party lifestyle (depending on which frat). I am perfectly content with my ROTC "frat", and they pay me to be a part of it. Just think about what that $450 is going to get you down the road. Go ΣX! Good luck.

That's the kind of hard thinking I've been doing lately. I'm trying to figure out what my money will actually get me. Although you say that fraternity dues bring only headaches and a bad GPA, you still seem pretty connected and enthusiastic about your frat. I'm only thinking of the time commitment that I will be giving up to be in one. We'll see what happens. I'm going to talk to some of my pledge brothers tonight. I appreciate the luck spectre56.

Room with a couple of guys from different fraternities (or even better, sororities). That way you can hit more parties and meet even more people (females) and save $$$$ from not paying dues too!

You're right, I am still sort of enthusiastic about it. I'm just not as involved as I was when I pledged, partly because I don't go to the school I pledged at anymore. After the pledge semester, time commitment (for me) was not bad at all. Don't get me wrong, I had a blast when I was in it, and I would definately do it again if I had to do it over, I just don't see many benefits of them after college except the aformentioned hook-ups.

What about Arnold Air Society? That's where the real action is!
There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.
