Not that it's news to anyone. The Air Force "Go...No Stop...No Go" cycle of personnel management isn't a new concept. Letting guys out with VSP during two wars with objectives both unmet and while enemies of the U.S. growing stronger and acquire nukes doesn't seem to make sense. This article explains how the Air Force is consciously cutting off its right arm to strengthen the left. Pretty good read.
http://www.heritage.org/Research/Na...bg2037.cfmOnce the political powers shift and we start pulling out of Iraq and freeing up money we may see the floodgates slam shut. Kind of interesting since the trend has been to RIF after a war's conclusion. Instead, we're RIFing during the war and will likely stop once the war is over. Maybe guys that VSPed will find themselves cordially invited back into active duty and with an extended pilot bonus to boot? Interesting times.
