I found this for Ryno and the admin guys reguarding conditions that could medically disqualify you, but it also shows how and what possibility you have of actually getting it waived. Everything looks great so far, but if there are holes or questions in it, please let me know and I will try to find an answer for you ASAP!

Peace

Good info, especially since it is from an af.mil site! Hopefully it will help some folks out.

You should also note that this is intended for pilot qualifications only, not commissioning, enlistment, entrance, etc.

Thanks for the help TT.

Can anyone think of any other waivers not covered from this list?

Hi. I am new to posting on this forum. This is a lot of good information.

I've been trying to find waivers on dental problems, specifically malocclusions. Haven't found any info for quite some time. This is what I read:

"Dental

Flying Classes II and III.

Personnel wearing orthodontic appliances need not have appliances removed for phys ical qualification. After consultation with the treating orthodontist, the local flight surgeon may qualify the individual for flying duties if there is no effect on speech or the ability to wear equip ment with comfort.

Severe malocclusion which interferes with normal mastication or requires protracted treatment."

I am afraid that even if I do get a slot, i'll be DQed anyways for this problem, although I don't have problems talking, eating, etc. Does anyone know much about these types of waivers? Thank you for your help.

Fly16, I'm guessing you found that quote from the Brooks site?

I know I'm not much help but I'd say check the Brooks website which it looks like you already did.  If the quote you got is from that site, then you sound like you're probably good to go.  If you want to be really sure just in case (which is probably a good call) you might have a family doctor/dentist give you a checkup and write a report basically saying you have no problem eating etc etc etc speaking directly to the waiver verbage.  Then take that with you and if the military dentists give you some problems you can show them that and hope for the best.

Hi Ryno. I found the quote from this website: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/airf...lymenu.htm which is directly taken from AFI 48-123 v3 (Medical Examination and Standards) section A4.6.. I actually have version 3 and version 4 of this document. If you think this can help anyone, let me know. I can send it by email. I also read in this other forum that the people at Brooks are cool. If you can pass, they will definitely give you the opportunity to do so. Thanks for the input. I will definitely keep that in mind.

Do you know if  these dental issues relate to problems with flying, wearing equipment, or whether or not the AF thinks it's worth it to put out money to take care of your problems later down the road?

Fly16,

I didn't read through all of that, but I did catch that you got that info under Class II and III physicals.

Remember, if you are looking to be on the stick, you need a FCI (Flying Class I) physical.

Just something to keep in mind if you're trolling around looking for waiver information.

Good luck!
