So, a few years back I was trying desperately to get a guard slot flying fighters and then I realized that might not be the life for me.  I kept flying for fun (airplanes and gliders) and added Comm and IFR ratings to my ticket (for both).

I just got a call tonight through a glider buddy that flies for Southwest, he heard that an ANG 737 squad might want a fresh pilot out of UPT and my name came up.  While this is a chance of a lifetime, I am turning 28 in 1 month.  I already have my packet finished for the most part (AFOQT/PCMS/letters/etc.).  Do they grant waivers for people my age?  I would think they might if they want me, but who knows.

The bad news: I'd say there's between a 0 and 1% chance of getting an age waiver, especially as a guy off the street.

The good news: You still got a few good months of pilot slot shopping before you're too old.  If it's something you really want, shotgun your package out to as many ANG or Reserve units as you can, kick ass on your interviews, and you can still make it through all the hurdles before the age limit.  At your age you could still go to at least 1 active board as well.

Good luck.

+1.

The only people flying the T-43 are at Randolph doing Navigator training, and that's even done by contractors.

The 201st AS (DC ANG) flies two aircraft, one of which is the C-40. The C-40 is classified as a Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) which is a fancy way of saying a VIP-layout 737.

Not sure if this is the unit being discussed but they are the only ones I know of who fly them in the Guard.

Jeffrey: If this the unit, follow-up with them. I've been waiting around and they have decided not to have a UPT board the last 2 years...
