This question is for current Pilots/Aviators and UPT slot holders from any branch. Please keep in mind, that though yes, I am hoping to get lucky one day, I am not asking this for myself directly. I'm just curious.

Would any of you help out someone who needed a waiver?

Let's say that you got to know the person fairly well, just enough that you felt that this person's character was 'safe' enough to put your name on the line. Maybe, their story is miraculous, maybe it related to yours, or you just feel that this individual deserves a shot for their effort and results that they posted on their way to that fateful trip to the recruiters office.

Like I said, I'm not hinting. I still have 2.5 more years until I graduate, not to mention that is a very tacky thing to do. And nobody here, knows the difference between me, and some "fly by night" (no pun intended).  However, I know like many of these guys here, I hope that in the end, I have opporitunity to form a package, and that it looks awesome, and maybe, just maybe I'll meet someone who'll step to the plate for me.

First, I'm assuming the question is rhetorical and you're not actually looking for people here to write a waiver.

Are you talking about a medical waiver or an LOR? Medically, waivers are 'suggested' by the flight surgeons at brooks and then HQ will approve/deny the waiver. So pretty sure you're not talking about this since you'd never need to write one....

If you're talking about an LOR, then damn right I'd write one (give me a few years to earn the prestige) if I felt the person deserves a shot at OTS and their character was sound (I presume OTS is the method to which this 'person' is applying). If you feel comfortable enough to put your name on the dotted line, then I'm not seeing the problem. UNLESS....

....you're talking about a waiver because the 'person' did something dumb in HS/College type of deal.... in which I have no idea who writes those nor grants those waivers for OTS since I went the ROTC route (and the 0-6 at our detachment signed off on those). So my answer would be 'N/A' because I never forsee myself in that circumstance in the near future.

I have been talking in generalities because I have no idea what you are looking for...more 'anonymous' details will need to be divulged if you want some real help.

Like I said, I am speaking in general terms. I mean it, when I say that I am not asking for myself. Will I be requiring one? Yes. But I guess, if anything, as far as myself is concerned, I am just 'forecasting'. And, I asked myself the same question, if I was in 'your' position. Age- definitely! Moral- I'd really have to get to know the guy a bit.

Although, I may be looking for some 'friends' the end of my Junior year, lol.

Well, I would only help someone out who "needed a waiver" if I knew who they were personally and knew exactly what it was they were seeking a waiver for.

In addition, since I'd be putting my name on the line, I'd have to be certain that they wouldn't do anything to compromise the favor I was doing them.

I had a former student who was going to be a great fighter pilot, but after he left my program he got a DUI. I wrote him a letter of recommendation for his UCMJ hearing -- I ws happy to do it because he was legitimately a great kid and it would be a loss to the USAF if he were booted for a DUI.
