Well, I'm a junior in high school and I plan on joining AFROTC in college and am hoping on becoming a fighter pilot. I am medically qualified in every way other than my seasonal allergies. I take shots to build up an immunity to the pollen and they are completely controled by taking singular. I have not developed any asthma like syptoms due to my allergies, but they are documented in my medical history because of the shots. I was just wondering what my chances of getting a waiver are and how and when to get the waiver.

It is my understanding that when going into the Air Force, if you have allergies, it is an automatic disqualifier for a pilot slot.  However, if you somehow develop allergies after you are in, it isn't a big deal.

Hmm, if only I had never gone to the doctor for them. Can you give me a link to where you saw this information? I just don't see why my practically non-existant allergies should be a big deal, but I'm still hoping to find a way around this. Thanks for your input.

I don't know where "UPT Hopeful" got his information, but I wouldn't take it as the "word".

For one, go to the top of the page to "Pilot Slot Resources" and select "Medical Tips" - allergies are listed there as "Waiverable" as long as their controlled.

Also, you might want to consult the AF Waiver Guide (Google it).

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction according to the AF Waiver Guide historically the waiver approval rate for allergic rhinitis has been above 99%.

Although, I do have further questions about the waiver process:
Can I apply for the waiver before I find out if I have gotten a pilot slot?
On average how long does it take to get a waiver?
Will having to get a wavier cause problems when it comes time to start UPT if the waiver has not gone through yet?
What steps do you go through to get the waiver?

I know I'm still a long way off from being at this point but I like being one step ahead especially when something is as competitive as getting a USAF pilot slot. Any input is useful.

Thanks
