flyinnoose    "Yes, there are limited slots through OTS.  Usually 1 primary and 1 alternate.  You have to put a package together and go through a board and interview with a board of O-6's"
raptor22        Do you know when T-6's will be making their official appearance at Sheppard?
flyinnoose    I believe they are going to show up in the spring of 08 and be fully integrated by the summer of 08.
treytaylor    are yall the only ones left with the tweets?
flyinnoose    I think that Vance still has a few.  But we are going to be the last training base that is flying them
raptor22        I've wondered this for a long time... what is the probability that Raptors will start showing in drops for new pilots in the coming couple years?
treytaylor    "i see alot of tweets come into Easterwood Field when I just hang around the airport there, im guessin those are yall"
flyinnoose    We got a brief from a Raptor guy who came here and broke!  He said that Raptor slots are not going to come down for quite some time to UPT grads.  They are soaking up mostly 15C guys and a few hotshot Viper dudes.  Currently it is about 80% 15C guys that are upgrading
flyinnoose    Take a look at the tails of the jets.  If they have a EN on the tail they are ours
raptor22        Is it difficult to get a 15C out of ENJJPT?
flyinnoose    "As far as the Raptor goes, it is such a complex system that UPT grads probably will not do well.  It is best to go to the 15C fly a tour and try to get picked up"
flyinnoose    15C out of ENJJPT is a pretty good bet.  Both of the guys in my class who asked for them got it.
treytaylor    Is getting a bomber or fighter slot out of ENJJPT like any other UPT program (merit based) or do yall have more say in what you want to fly?
flyinnoose    "The majority of the jets that drop are Vipers.  1-2 A-10's, 1-2 15E's, 1-2 bombers, T-38 FAIP, T-37 FAIP and fill out with Vipers is a typical drop"
raptor69j    What are the typical qualifications of the OTS guys that get selected for ENJJPT?
flyinnoose    Getting selected for a Bomber or Fighter is a complex system of number crunching and evaluation.  Obviously if you are not good at formation (bust a bunch of rides or checkrides) you will probably get a bomber.  But there is also an officer quality evaluation
flyinnoose    "OTS qualifications :  Get a job at OTS that carries a weight of 4 -5.  Do well in academics, leadership activities and a good recommendation from a flight commander"
raptor22        Interesting... is there any way to avoid getting FAIP?
flyinnoose    Graduate in the bottom half of your class

treytaylor    are you lined up for anything after your tour as a FAIP?
flyinnoose    Basically a FAIP tour guarantees your #1 choice

raptor22        does that hurt you much when it comes to stuff like Weapons School though?
flyinnoose    "Not sure the long term ramifications.  However, that is a question asked by a lot of dudes.  There are FAIP's that go to Weapon's school.  From what we have been told it is still a possibility"
flyinnoose    "As far as promotion goes - Lt Col, Col etc - It is great for your career"
treytaylor    how well does a college enviroment prepare you for the demands placed on you during UPT? How much more difficult is ENJJPT compared to normal UPT?
raptor22        "Understood...  well, I have to get to a meeting unfortunately.  Gotta love the Academy.  If you're still around in Jul 08 I will probably see you at Sheppard.  Thanks for your time!!"

flyinnoose    "College did not prepare me well at all for UPT.  Basically, you will eat, sleep, drink and s%$t flying for 13 months.  You have to be able to learn all the information in a high stress environment and still perform.  I equate it to getting a PhD in a year"
flyinnoose    "ENJJPT is very competitive like the other bases, but everyone here is a fighter pilot, so the SNAP thing is out the window.  ENJJPT has more checkrides as well"
treytaylor    Do you think attending a military academy or military organization (more involved than normal ROTC) gives you any more of an advantage in that kind of enviroment?
flyinnoose    "Later, thanks for coming"
flyinnoose    "No, it is a matter of adapting to your environment"
treytaylor    did you have any previous flying experience before ENJJPT?
flyinnoose    "Yeah, I had about 50 hours of civilian time, but had not flown for almost 2 years prior to beginning UPT"
treytaylor    "how did that help you? Ive heard both sides or the argument. Some say its benificial as long as you don't have a problem learning new ways to fly, but others claim that it really doesn't do you much good."
flyinnoose    Military flying is very structured and disciplined.  Each sortie has specific requirements and standards to adhere to and achieve.  The civilian time did not help at all.  The only thing it taught me was that there were airports and planes, you had to talk to ATC and that's about it.  Air Force training is an eye opener.  Come with your fangs out ready to learn - - fast!
flyinnoose    "The pattern is different, procedures are different, there are a lot of rules to learn, and the speed (even in the tweet) is something that took me for a loop initially"
treytaylor    what are you lined up to jump into after FAIP
flyinnoose    "Here's the choices:  F-16, A-10, B-2, F-15E, F-15C, and maybe by the end of my tour F-22"

flyinnoose    You begin the application process with about 3 weeks until OTS graduation
flyinnoose    There is a memo/application that you need to fill out about yourself and why you think you would be a good candidate
flyinnoose    You then interview in front of a board of Colonel's
flyinnoose    They make the ultimate decision about it.  I was informed through an email from another flight commander.
flyinnoose    "The results come out with about a week and a half to go, and by that time you already have your orders to a different base."
flyinnoose    They need to be amended and then you are on your way

flyinnoose    "Know your sh1t, be a good officer, and team player.  The rest should fall in line"
flyinnoose    "There is a big emphasis on knowing the information.  If you have systems, procedures, standards etc down, you will have a better chance of freeing up brain bytes while flying because you will know what is going on"
raptor22        "would you recommend studying ahead before showing up?  ie. reading the Dash 1, memorizing boldface, learning the local area, etc."

flyinnoose    "The first day I would recommend having the boldface, ops limits and starting the jet down cold.  Additionally, the local area procedural knowledge and the wing standards are major emphasis items too.  Then if you have time hit the -1"

flyinnoose    Initially I though the language barrier was going to be an issue.  However, I didn't know that these guys all have to be fluent in order ot even come to the program.  Also, all the IP's here from foreign nations went through here, so english is not a problem
raptor22        "Definitely... I think I'm ready though, I've been waiting for it all my life.  So you think there's a decent chance of getting into an earlier class date?"
flyinnoose    "In fact it enhances the experience, and you will make some really good friends that you will bump into at engagements down the road"

treytaylor    well, im just in my first year of ROTC, second year in college. I had to go to a branch campus to get to College Station, where I wanted to be, so im still another 4 years out. I got a 97 on my AFOQT pilot and a 94 on my nav. Im trying to get all the other shi1t looking good early on to give me the best chances. My GPA is at a 3.0 and will hopefully stay somewhere around there for the next few years.
